Estate Teatrale Veronese – Teatro Romano
4 July — 29 August
Veronese Summer Theater Festival
The Veronese Summer Theater is one of Italy’s most prestigious open-air theater festivals. Every summer, the Roman Theater in Verona, one of the best preserved from antiquity, once again hosts performances of drama, dance, music and contemporary theater just as it did two thousand years ago.
Programming and Performances
The program offers high-quality performances: Greek and Shakespearean tragedies in the original setting of an ancient theater, ballets by international companies, classical and jazz concerts, and contemporary theater performances. The season runs from June to September with performances almost every evening.
The Roman Theater
The Roman Theater, built in the 1st century B.C. on the hill of San Pietro, offers a unique experience: the stone bleachers overlook a bend in the Adige River and the roofs of Verona, with the starry sky as a natural ceiling. The acoustics are extraordinary and the atmosphere is intimate despite the 1,500 seats.
Practical Information
Tickets are available online and at the theater box office. Verona is only 30 minutes from Lake Garda: combining a day at the beach with an evening performance at the Roman Theater is the perfect way to experience a Garda summer. A cushion is recommended for the stone bleachers.
