Useful info before departure

Seasonal timetables

From 5 October to 1 November 2026 the autumn timetable applies, with reduced sailings between Desenzano, Peschiera and Riva. From 2 November 2026 to 12 March 2027 only the Maderno–Torri car ferry runs; passenger boats restart on 13 March 2027.

Tickets

Available at the harbour (ticket office or machine) or online on the Navigarda website. On board you pay €1 extra per passenger, item of luggage or vehicle, unless the ticket office ashore is closed.

Bikes & dogs

Bikes on boats with a ticket from €3.50 to €6.90 depending on the zone, never on hydrofoils or catamarans. Dogs under 50 cm travel free, larger dogs at the reduced fare, always on a lead.

Saving tip

The "whole network" day ticket (€39.50) pays off from 3 trips a day; zone day tickets cost €23.50-27. The Maderno-Torri car ferry saves the full drive around the lake.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about Lake Garda ferries.

Can I take my car on the ferry?

Yes, but only on the Toscolano-Maderno ↔ Torri del Benaco route: it is the only ferry on Lake Garda carrying vehicles, year-round, with 17 crossings per direction in the summer timetable (8.00 am-7.50 pm). 2026 one-way fares, driver included: cars up to 3.5 m €12.30, up to 4.5 m €14.90, longer €18.40; motorbikes €9.80-12.30; campervans €25; each extra passenger €7.50, children 4-11 €3.80.

How much does it cost to take a bicycle?

On boats and motor vessels yes, with a bicycle ticket from €3.50 (zone 1) to €6.90 (zone 7); e-bikes and scooters pay the same. Folding bikes closed and under 1.10 m travel free. Bicycles are not allowed on hydrofoils or catamarans. Boarding is at the captain's discretion on busy days, so on summer weekends ask at the ticket office or call the freephone 800 551 801.

Can dogs come on board?

Yes. Dogs under 50 cm travel free; medium and large dogs pay the reduced fare for the route. They must be kept on a lead (max 1.5 m), may not occupy seats, and the captain may require a muzzle. Guide dogs and working dogs travel free.

Is there an all-inclusive day ticket?

Yes. The "whole network" day ticket costs €39.50 (reduced €31.60, children €20) and is valid on all boats for one day; a 3-day version costs €79. Cheaper zone day tickets exist: Upper Lake or Lower Lake €27, North, Centre, West and East areas €23.50. With two full-price day tickets, up to two children aged 4-11 travel free (Happy Family). Worth it from 3 trips in the same day.

Do ferries run in winter?

From 2 November 2026 to 12 March 2027 only the Maderno–Torri car ferry runs, on its winter timetable. Scheduled boats on the Lower and Upper Lake return from 13 March 2027. From 3 September 2026, until further notice, the ferry does not carry buses or trucks.

Do I need to book in advance?

For regular boats, no — just buy a ticket at the dock or online on the day. For large groups (15+ people) and for the car ferry in high season, booking via the Navigarda website is recommended.

What's the most scenic route?

The Desenzano ↔ Riva del Garda route (4 hours by boat, 2h15 by hydrofoil) crosses the entire lake offering spectacular views of Sirmione, the Limone cliffs, Monte Baldo and the Brenta Dolomites. Unmissable on clear days.

Do children pay full fare?

Children up to 3 travel free. From 4 to 11 they pay the children's fare, from €3.50 (zones 1-2) to €8.80 (zone 7); from 12 the full fare applies. On the day ticket children pay €20 instead of €39.50, and with Happy Family two children travel free alongside two full-price day tickets.
