Nago-Torbole
Torbole sul Garda is located in the northeastern corner of the lake, where the blue waters meet the slopes of Monte Baldo and the wind takes center stage. Colorful sails, windsurfers, and canoes bring the Benaco to life, while trails and single tracks wind up through hills covered in woods and olive groves. Here, thanks to the Mediterranean microclimate and constant winds like the Òra, a renowned destination for sailing, windsurfing, and outdoor sports has emerged. It was right here, in 1786, that Goethe wrote his famous verses on the beauty of the lake.
What to See in the Village
The village offers scenic views at every turn: the Colonia Pavese park overlooking the beach, the little church of Santa Maria, Casa Beust with its fresco, and the former customs house on the lakefront. Walking up Via Picalof, you’ll reach Piazza Goethe and the church of Sant’Andrea, which overlooks the lake, all the way to the panoramic Belvedere. Just outside the village are the spectacular Marmitte dei Giganti, and every Tuesday, the historic market.
What to do
Torbole is one of the world’s meccas for windsurfing and sailing, with schools, rental shops, and international regattas. From scenic trails like the Busatte-Tempesta to mountain bike and e-bike rides toward Ponale, Ledro, and Monte Baldo, to lakeside walks and bike paths toward Riva, Arco, and Monte Brione: there’s something for every pace.
