The Most Beautiful Mountains in the World
The Dolomites have been recognized as a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site since 2009, celebrated for the beauty of their mountain landscapes considered among the most extraordinary on the planet. The towers, peaks, and vertical limestone walls of dolomite change color from dawn to dusk in the distinctive phenomenon known as enrosadira, shifting from pink to orange to violet.
The Brenta Group
The Brenta Group, the section closest to Lake Garda, is accessible in less than an hour from Riva del Garda through the Val di Non or from Arco. Madonna di Campiglio, at the foot of the Brenta, is the ideal base for excursions among alpine huts, via ferrata routes, and scenic trails. Cima Tosa (3,173 m) and Campanil Basso are the iconic peaks of the group.
Recommended Excursions
For those departing from Lake Garda, the most accessible excursions include the Five Lakes circuit at Madonna di Campiglio (3-4 hours, family-friendly), Val di Fumo in the Adamello Park, and the Pale di San Martino reachable from the Valsugana valley. In winter, the Brenta Dolomites offer world-class skiing just 90 minutes from the lake.
