The Residence of the Lake Captain
The Palazzo dei Capitani of Garda, also known as Palazzo Carlotti or Palazzo Losa Fregoso, overlooks the small harbor of the town of Garda with its elegant Gothic-Venetian façade, a town that gave its name to the entire lake. It was the seat of the Capitano del Lago, the Venetian magistrate responsible for navigation and commerce on Lake Garda.
The Building
Dating back to the 14th-15th century, the palace features architectural elements typical of Venetian Gothic: triforas with trilobate arches, crenellations, and a portico on the ground floor that opened onto the commercial activities of the port. Its position on the waterfront makes it one of the most scenic historic buildings on the eastern shore.
San Vigilio Point and the Historic Center
From Garda, you can easily reach the nearby Punta di San Vigilio, considered the most romantic spot on the lake, and the Bay of the Sirens. The historic center of Garda, with its medieval alleyways and arcaded square, deserves a leisurely stroll.
