Soiano del Lago

Lombardia
Lago di Garda

The medieval castle, on top of the hill, is the visual landmark of the village. The perimeter walls, partly restored, and the main tower are what remains of a defensive enclosure from the 10th-11th centuries, built-like other Valtenesi castles-as a collective refuge for the population. From the tower, the view opens to 360 degrees: the lake to the north, Garda Island to the west, and the Valtenesi vineyard hills and plains to the south.

The castle area is now a public park, a place for walks and, in summer, for cultural events – open-air cinema, concerts, festivals – that enliven the evenings of an otherwise quiet town. The Mediterranean vegetation – holm oaks, cypresses, olive trees – surrounding the walls contributes to the intimate atmosphere of the place.

The historic center is a network of narrow streets and stone houses, with the Parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo as its centerpiece. The church preserves sacred artworks of the Brescian school and an 18th-century organ. The small square in front, with its washhouse and fountain, is the social heart of the village.

The Soiano area is devoted to viticulture and olive growing. Groppello and Barbera vineyards produce Chiaretto and Valtenesi reds; olive groves generate an extra-virgin DOP oil with a light fruitiness, suitable for lake cuisine. Several farms offer direct sales and agritourism hospitality.

For hikers, Soiano is a starting point for trails that wind through vineyards and oak forests, connecting the town to Polpenazze, Padenghe and the Rocca di Manerba. The Valtenesi Trail passes through the municipal area, offering a scenic route of medium difficulty.

Soiano can be reached from the Gardesana road by exiting at Padenghe or Moniga and heading inland. Parking in the center of the village.
