Spring is perhaps the most beautiful time to visit Lake Garda: gardens bloom, temperatures are mild, prices are low, and there are no summer crowds.
Why come in the spring
- Perfect temperatures: 15-22°C, ideal for walking and hiking
- Blooms: lemons, oleanders and bougainvillea color every hamlet
- Fewer tourists: available parking spaces, restaurants without queues, lower prices
- Long days: from April the days get longer, more time to explore
What to do month by month
March
- Visit to botanical gardens: the Heller Garden in Gardone Riviera and the Sigurtà Garden Park in Valeggio begin to bloom again.
- First hikes: the Ponale Trail and Rocca di Manerba are perfect in cool weather.
- Tulipanomania at Sigurtà Park: one million tulips in bloom (from mid-March).
April
- Seasonal opening of boats, Monte Baldo cable car, and theme parks.
- Perfect for driving around the lake: clear roads and green vistas.
- Easter at the lake: many villages hold markets and special events.
May
- You can already take your first swim in the more sheltered areas (Sirmione, Lazise).
- Bicycle paths in bloom: the Garda Cycle Path between Limone and Riva is spectacular.
- Start of the windsurfing and SUP season in Torbole.
- Vinitaly in Verona (30 minutes from the lake): the most important wine fair in Italy.
What to bring
In spring the weather is variable: bring light layers, a waterproof jacket and hiking shoes. It can be cool in the evenings, especially in the north.
