Brescia Castle: 700 weapons and suits of armor—the most important European collection related to the Brescian tradition.

Set on the Cidneo Hill, within the walls of the Brescia Castle, the Luigi Marzoli Arms Museum opened in 1988 after a series of restorations brought the Visconti frescoes back to light. It preserves one of Europe’s most important collections of antique armour and weapons tied to local production traditions.

The Museum was born thanks to the acquisition of the collection of cavaliere del lavoro Luigi Marzoli, a brilliant entrepreneur from Palazzolo. Among the many important weapons (bladed, defensive, firearms and artillery), the sixteenth-century Brescian armours stand out — particularly the infantry corselets — and the firearms with the famed Gardonese barrels, the kind of production that has made Brescia renowned worldwide since the 16th century.

Over 700 pieces tell the story of the technological and artistic progress achieved by Brescian craftsmen from the 15th to the early 19th century, not only from the Marzoli collection but also from weapons already held in the 19th century by the Christian Museum.
