The Political Heart of Lake Garda’s Riviera

The Palazzo della Magnifica Patria, overlooking the waterfront of Salò, was for centuries the seat of autonomous government for the Riviera di Salò, a community comprising 42 municipalities on the Brescia shore of Lake Garda. Built in 1524, the palace is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture.

What to See

The Sala dei Provveditori preserves frescoes by Giovanni Andrea Bertanza depicting episodes from the history of the Riviera. The palace also houses a bust of Gasparo da Salò, a celebrated luthier considered one of the inventors of the violin. The ground floor loggia, with its elegant arcades, opens onto the square and the waterfront.

Visit

The palace now houses the Municipality of Salò and can be visited during office opening hours. It is recommended to combine your visit with the nearby Salò Cathedral and MuSa — Salò Museum, dedicated to the city’s history and art.
