Thrill Terrace — Tremosine

Tremosine sul Garda

Transparent glass over 350 metres of empty air: the Terrazza del Brivido at Tremosine, reached via what Churchill called the eighth wonder of the world.

The Attraction

At Pieve di Tremosine, 350 meters sheer above the lake, the Thrill Terrace is exactly what its name promises: a glass and steel platform that juts out into the void, with Lake Garda beneath your feet and an open horizon extending to the Trentino mountains. Inaugurated in 2018 as an expansion of the Hotel Paradiso restaurant, the terrace has become one of the most photographed attractions on the entire lake in just a few years.

The Road: Strada della Forra

The true protagonist, however, is the road that leads here: the Strada della Forra, which Winston Churchill called “the eighth wonder of the world” during a visit in the 1930s. This provincial road, built between 1907 and 1913, climbs through a gorge carved by the Brasa torrent into limestone rock, passing through hand-carved stone tunnels, hairpin turns that spiral back on themselves, and sheer drops where the rock face and roadway seem to merge as one. The Forra served as a film set for a chase scene in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace (2008).

The Village

Pieve di Tremosine, the main town of the municipality with the highest elevation on Lake Garda, is a village of 200 inhabitants perched on a plateau with a small square, a church, and a few stone houses. The atmosphere is that of a mountain village gazing down at the lake—a contrast that surprises those accustomed to lakeside resorts.

Visiting Information

The Thrill Terrace, accessible free of charge, is a walkway of approximately 15 meters protruding from the rocky cliff face. The transparent stratified glass floor allows you to see the void beneath your feet—an experience that provokes different reactions, from euphoria to panic, but which leaves no one indifferent. A second terrace beside the first offers the same view with a traditional guardrail for those who prefer not to challenge their fear of heights.

It can be reached by car from the western shore road (turn toward Tremosine, then follow signs for Pieve). The Strada della Forra is closed to vehicles wider than 2 meters and buses. Free parking is available at Pieve. A visit to the terrace takes only a few minutes, but it is recommended to stop in Pieve for lunch with a view and a walk through the village.
