The Most Sumptuous Baroque Villa on Lake Garda

Villa Bettoni, in Bogliaco di Gargnano, is considered the most imposing noble residence on the entire Lake Garda. Built between 1750 and 1764 at the behest of the Bettoni counts, the villa overlooks the lake directly with a monumental façade stretching over 100 meters in length.

Architecture and Gardens

The interiors feature frescoes by Cignaroli and Celesti, gilded stuccos, period furnishings, and a historic library. The Italian gardens, arranged on terraces sloping down toward the lake, are enriched with statues, fountains, nymphaeums, and a green theater. Among the illustrious guests who stayed here were Napoleon Bonaparte, Giacomo Puccini, and Giuseppe Garibaldi.

Practical Information

The villa is privately owned and is not always open to the public, but the gardens are accessible on certain occasions and during cultural events. The village of Bogliaco is worth a visit also for its small harbor and the lakeside promenade toward Gargnano.
