Waterfalls of Molina
FumaneThe Molina Waterfalls Park is one of those places that surprise those who expect them as a mere tourist attraction: once inside, one finds oneself immersed in a natural environment of extraordinary beauty, where water has shaped over time gorges, pools and spectacular jumps in the Lessini Mountains.
The route starts from the medieval village of Molina, a well-preserved stone village that still bears the signs of its long milling history – the watermills that for centuries harnessed the power of the local streams. The entrance to the park is at the end of the village, where an information office welcomes visitors and provides directions on the three marked trails: green, red and black, for all levels of experience.
The most complete route covers about 3.5 kilometres with an altitude difference of 223 metres, crossing a continuous sequence of waterfalls of all sizes: some rounded and delicate, others tall and mighty, all created by the erosive action of water on limestone. Along the way we encounter natural caves, small lakes fed by the waterfalls and corners of cool, shady forest.
The park is frequented all year round, but the best season is from May to June and then September, when the water flow is abundant without the excessive heat of summer. In July and August, the park gets very crowded at weekends.
An excursion suitable for the whole family, with picnic areas equipped and paths accessible to the untrained. A plunge into the nature of the Lessini Mountains just a few kilometres from the shore of Lake Garda.
Full details of the three trails and a downloadable map are on the park’s official website. Note: in winter the park is closed for safety reasons.
