Lake Garda is a favorite destination for motorcyclists from all over Europe. Scenic roads, breathtaking hairpin bends, mountain passes and incredible scenery: here are the must-see routes.

1. Forra Road – Tremosine

Described by Winston Churchill as “the eighth wonder of the world,” this rock-cut road connects the lake to Tremosine through a vertiginous gorge. Narrow and spectacular, it was used as a location for James Bond (Quantum of Solace). Caution: no trucks allowed, but it can be one-way in summer.

2. Tremalzo Pass (1,665 m)

Technical climb with tight switchbacks connecting Ledro Valley to the lake. The road is not always in great condition, but the view from the top repays every turn. Take SP115 from Tignale.

3. Gardesana Occidentale (SS45bis)

The road that runs along the western shore of the lake from Salò to Riva del Garda. Tunnels carved into the rock, sudden overlooks of the lake and colorful villages. The section between Gargnano and Limone is the most striking.

4. Monte Baldo – Road from San Zeno

From Caprino Veronese climb to Monte Baldo through hairpin bends with views of the Po Valley and then the lake. Arrive at Bocca di Navene (1,430 m) for a 360° view.

5. Nota Pass and Ledro Valley

From Riva del Garda, climb to Passo Nota with gentle curves and then descend to Lake Ledro, a turquoise-colored hidden gem.

6. Tour of the Three Regions

Full-day itinerary (about 200 km): Garda → Brenner → Madonna di Campiglio → Lake Idro → Lake Garda. Three lakes, two passes, and three different regions.

Tips for motorcyclists

  • On summer weekends, the Gardesana is very busy: leave early (7-8 a.m.)
  • Mountain roads can have gravel in curves: cautious driving
  • Fuel is more expensive at lakeside stations: fill up sooner
  • Free motorcycle parking in almost all locations
  • In spring and fall, mountain roads may be closed due to snow
