The Peschiera – Sirmione – Desenzano cycle path is the great classic of the lower Lake Garda area: 36 km completely flat along the southern shore of the lake, connecting three of the most popular resorts in the Veneto and Brescia areas of Lake Garda. A scenic and accessible route that passes through beaches, historic villages and picture-postcard lake landscapes.

The route
It starts in Peschiera del Garda, whose Venetian fortifications are a UNESCO heritage site. From the fortified star you pedal westwards along the southern shore of the lake, where the landscape alternates between small beaches, reed beds and cultivated fields.
The first destination is Sirmione, the Pearl of Lake Garda: the peninsula juts out into the lake for almost 4 km, with the Scaligero Castle guarding the entrance and the Grotte di Catullo at the tip. It deserves a stop for an ice cream on the lakefront or a swim at Jamaica Beach.
From Sirmione we continue on to Desenzano del Garda, the liveliest town on the lower lake. Desenzano’s lakefront, with its harbour, cafés and antique market, is the perfect conclusion to the tour.

Recommended stops
Colombare di Sirmione for the thermal baths, the historic centre of Sirmione for the Grotte di Catullo, Desenzano for the old port and the castle. Along the way there are numerous free beaches for a refreshing dip.

Practical tips
Flat route on a mix of dedicated cycle path, dirt road and minor roads. Suitable for families with children. E-bike not necessary but convenient for the outward and return journey. Alternatively, the Navigarda boat connects the three locations for the return journey. Rental bikes are available in Peschiera and Desenzano. The best period is from March to October.
