Italy’s Premier Literary Festival

The Festivaletteratura of Mantua, now in its 30th edition, is the most important literary festival in Italy and one of the most prestigious in Europe. For five days in September, the city of the Gonzagas becomes the capital of literature with over 300 events including author meetings, readings, workshops and performances.

World-Class Program

The program hosts world-renowned writers, Nobel Prize winners, journalists, scientists, philosophers and artists who engage with the public in squares, courtyards, churches and historic palaces throughout Mantua. The meetings span from narrative fiction to essays, from poetry to graphic novels, from science to philosophy.

Extraordinary Venues

The locations are extraordinary: Piazza Sordello, the Bibiena Theater, the Palazzo della Ragione, convent cloisters and gardens overlooking the lake. Each place becomes a space for dialogue and discussion.

Practical Information

Mantua is reachable from Lake Garda in less than an hour. Many events are free admission, while others require online reservation which opens weeks before the festival. It is advisable to book well in advance the most anticipated meetings. The Festivaletteratura is an unmissable cultural experience.
