Vallagarina cycle path

The Vallagarina Cycle Path connects Rovereto to Riva del Garda along 25 km of traffic-free cycle path, slightly downhill towards the lake. It is a perfect route for families and cyclists of all levels, passing through one of the most varied landscapes in Trentino: vineyards, apple orchards, the charming Lake Loppio and the Adige gorges.

The route
It starts in Rovereto, a city of art and culture dominated by the Castle and the MART, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The cycle path follows the course of the Adige southwards, crossing countryside dotted with Marzemino vineyards – the wine mentioned by Mozart in Don Giovanni – and apple orchards that in spring burst into pink and white blossom.
The most striking stretch is the passage along Lake Loppio, an ancient lake basin now dried up, creating an almost lunar landscape. The track skirts the dry lake before descending to Nago and from there, plunging towards Torbole and Riva del Garda with spectacular views of the upper lake.

Arrival at the lake
The arrival in Riva del Garda is exciting: the track descends gently to the lakefront where the mountains plunge into the water, creating the alpine scenery that makes Upper Garda unique. From Riva it is possible to continue on the famous suspended cycle path towards Limone sul Garda.

Practical advice
The route is almost entirely downhill from Rovereto to Riva, making it ideal for families with children. For the return trip, you can either take the train (Riva-Rovereto) or cycle uphill (gentle). The road is entirely asphalted. Rental bikes are available in both Rovereto and Riva. The route is open all year round, but spring and autumn offer the best temperatures.
