The Via Ferrata del Monte Colodri is the gateway to the world of Garda via ferratas: a short but intense route that climbs above the town of Arco, offering spectacular views of the Sarca Valley and Lake Garda. Ideal as a first ferrata or for a half-day vertical adventure.
The route
The start is from the historical centre of Arco, at the foot of the famous Castle that dominates the town from its cliff. You ascend through a short section in the forest to the attack of the ferrata, where the real adventure begins.
The equipped sections are well bolted and offer ideal progression: you start with simple passages to become familiar with cable and carabiners, then the difficulty gradually increases with more vertical sections. The rock is solid and offers good natural holds even off the cable.
The panorama
As you climb, the view opens up over the plain of Arco and the Sarca Valley, with Lake Garda appearing in the background framed by the mountains. From the summit of Monte Colodri the panorama is 360 degrees: from the Brenta to the Brenta Dolomites, from Monte Bondone to the lake. It is one of the most photographed viewpoints in the area.
Practical advice
Compulsory via ferrata kit: harness, set of lanyards with dissipator and helmet. If you do not have equipment, several mountain guides and shops in Arco offer rental and accompaniment. The ferrata is of medium difficulty (K2-K3), with well-equipped vertical sections. Avoid rainy days: the wet rock becomes slippery. The ideal period is from March to November. After the ferrata, Arco is worth a visit: the town is Europe’s climbing capital and offers excellent restaurants and craft breweries.
