Via Ferrata Che Guevara
PietramurataThe Via Ferrata Che Guevara in Pietramurata is one of the most spectacular via ferratas in the Garda Trentino region: a vertical and challenging route that climbs the limestone walls above the Sarca Valley with aerial passages and breathtaking views. The name pays homage to the adventurous spirit required to tackle it.
The route
The start of the ferrata is reached after a short walk in the woods from Pietramurata, a small village in the Sarca Valley a few kilometres from Arco. The route runs along the south face of Monte Casale, exposed to the sun and with a view of the valley below.
The first sections are warm-up, but soon the difficulty rises with vertical passages and small overhangs where arms and concentration are essential. The limestone rock offers good holds but requires attention in the smoother sections. Some exposed traverses give adrenalin rushes with the void underfoot.
Panorama from the summit
The effort is repaid by the panorama: from the summit you can dominate the entire Sarca Valley, with Arco and its castle in the foreground, the climbing walls that have made the area world famous, and in the background the blue of Lake Garda. On a clear day the view reaches as far as the Brenta Dolomites.
Practical tips
Highly difficult ferrata (K3-K4), reserved for people with via ferrata experience. Complete obligatory kit: harness, via ferrata set with dissipator and helmet. Good physical condition and absence of vertigo are essential requirements. Do not climb in rain or thunderstorms – wet rock is dangerous and the wall is exposed to lightning. Recommended period from April to October. Mountain guides are available in Arco for accompaniment.
