Prada Alta – Mondini Refuge

The hike from Prada Alta to Rifugio Mondini is one of the most scenic walks on Monte Baldo: 8 km through alpine meadows with a constant view of Lake Garda, perfect for families and those looking for a day in the mountains without technical difficulties. The Rifugio Mondini, with its malga cuisine, is the ideal reward.

The route
It starts at the Prada plateau (980 m), above San Zeno di Montagna, which can be reached by car. The trail climbs gently through flower-filled meadows and pastures where grazing cows complete a perfect bucolic picture. The 400-metre difference in altitude is spread out gradually over 4 km of ascent, with no demanding climbs.
The special feature of the route is the constant panorama: Lake Garda is always visible on the left, with the Brescia shore and the mountains of Trentino as a backdrop. The path is wide and well marked, which is also passable with children who are used to walking.

The Mondini Refuge
The Rifugio Mondini is a mountain refreshment point where you can enjoy typical dishes prepared with local products: polenta with Monte Veronese cheese, canederli (dumplings), cured meats and homemade desserts. The hut’s panoramic terrace offers one of the most beautiful views of Lake Garda – the perfect moment for a memorable lunch break.

Practical advice
Easy excursion, suitable for families with children aged 6-7 years. Sturdy hiking or trainers. The route is circular, with the possibility of variations. Check the opening times of the refuge before setting off. Period: April-November. In spring, the meadows are a carpet of wild flowers. Car park in Prada.
