Salò harbors one of the most elegant historic centers of the entire Lake Garda area, and this walk retraces its most authentic soul by following the thread of the lakefront. The route is flat, with no significant differences in elevation, and is suitable for any season and any type of visitor: families with children, the elderly, those who travel in a wheelchair or with a stroller.

We start from the monumental neoclassical cemetery overlooking the water-an unusual presence but one of great architectural dignity-and proceed to the heart of the city by skirting the Rive, the riverfront that combines urban nature and history. Layers of centuries emerge along the way: the Church of San Bernardino from 1476, the Church of the Visitation from 1712, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta with its unfinished facade.

The route also passes through places charged with twentieth-century memory: Palazzo Fantoni, the headquarters of a ministry during the Italian Social Republic in 1943, reminds us how Salò was, in spite of itself, a protagonist of a tragic season of Italian history. More serene is a visit to MuSa, the Museum of Salò, which tells the story of the city from its pre-Roman origins to the modern age.

It ends at the Porta del Carmine, the ancient entrance to the walled city, with a view of the gulf and the hills that slope gently toward the lake. A walk that is worth a stop in Salò alone, even for those who are only in the area for a few hours.

Practical info: completely flat trail, accessible to all. Sufficient comfortable footwear. Numerous bars and restaurants along the route.
