The Tremalzo Trail is the legend of Garda mountain biking: 32 km of epic trail with 1,500 metres of altitude difference, which plunges from the summit of the Tremalzo Pass towards Limone sul Garda via breathtaking single tracks. It is considered one of the most beautiful trails in Europe and attracts bikers from all over the world.
The route
The ascent to Passo Tremalzo (1665 m) takes place on a forest road from Limone, with a long and steady climb through beech and fir forests. The ascent is the least spectacular part, but serves as a warm-up for what comes next. Alternatively, the climb can be made from Storo/Valle di Ledro for a less steep approach.
From the pass begins the trail that has made Tremalzo famous: a single track that descends through alpine meadows with aerial views of Lake Garda, 1500 metres below. The descent alternates between smooth and fast sections and technical sections with stones, roots and tight hairpin bends that require skill and cold blood.
Iconic sections
The upper part of the descent crosses open meadows with 360-degree views – here Garda appears in all its majesty. Further down the trail enters the forest with technical passages where concentration is everything. The final section towards Limone is steep and demanding, with steps and blind bends that test even the most experienced riders.
Practical tips
Only for experienced bikers with excellent downhill technique. Full-suspended MTB with at least 150mm of travel. Recommended protection: helmet (full-face for the descent), knee pads, gloves. Bring water and food for the ascent. The route is practicable from June to October. In summer, start early to avoid the heat on the ascent. The trail is shared with hikers: respect and caution when overtaking.
